Last November the Egyptian ministerial economic group decided on some restrictions and new procedures that are applied to imports from 1st January 2016. The target is to protect the local industry and prevent smuggling, by introducing reference prices for more than 300 commodities and a series of new procedures: now receipts must be approved by the Chamber of Commerce, CO is compulsory, EUR1 is accepted only in English and must contain the number of the receipt. Moreover, Egyptian banks must approve the value of the goods at the Egyptian customs to complete the customs clearance.
